As the year winds down, it’s natural to think about what we’ve experienced, what we’ve learned, and what we hope for in the year ahead. Taking time to reflect and set intentions isn’t just a nice tradition, but a powerful mental health tool that can reduce overwhelm, increase self-awareness, and help you live more intentionally.

Reflection: Looking Back on 2025

Reflecting on your past year allows you to notice growth, celebrate wins, and identify patterns or challenges that might need change. Self reflection is a tool that allows you to honour your experiences and foster increased self-development.

Reflection prompts for 2025:

  • What are three that I can feel proud of this year?
  • What challenges taught me the most about myself?
  • When did I feel the most at peace this year?
  • What habits or mindsets did not serve me well this year?
  • What relationships or experiences brought me joy, and which drained my energy?

Spend some time journaling or simply sitting with these questions. You might be surprised at the insights that you uncover.

Goal and Intention Setting: Stepping Into 2026

Once you’ve reflected, you can set goals and intentions for the new year. Setting clear goals and intentions builds motivation. Seeing your path forward makes it easier to take the first steps. Over time, small actions create momentum, helping you gradually achieve your goals without feeling overwhelmed.

Goal and intention prompts for 2026:

  • What small, consistent self-care habits can I introduce to feel healthier and more balanced?
  • How will I support my mental health and emotional well-being?
  • What physical wellness habits (movement, sleep, nutrition) will I commit to?
  • What relationships bring me energy and joy and how can I nurture them?
  • What hobbies or creative outlets will I make time for?

Setting aside even a small amount of time to reflect and plan can leave you entering the new year with clarity, confidence, and a sense of purpose.
