What is Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy in Kelowna?

Specialized Therapy for Pelvic Floor Strength and Function

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is a specialized area of physiotherapy that focuses on the muscles, connective tissues, and structures of the pelvis. These muscles play an important role in bladder and bowel control, core stability, sexual function, and supporting the pelvic organs.

At Momentum Health in Kelowna, pelvic health physiotherapy is available for people experiencing pelvic symptoms, as well as those looking to support their body during pregnancy, postpartum recovery, or a return to exercise.

How Can Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy Help?

Relieve Symptoms, Restore Function, and Improve Pelvic Health

Pelvic floor physiotherapy may help with:

  • Pelvic or abdominal pain
  • Urinary leakage, urgency, or frequency
  • Bowel urgency, constipation, or incontinence
  • Pelvic pressure or heaviness
  • Abdominal separation and core dysfunction
  • Pain with intimacy or sexual activity
  • Pregnancy and postpartum recovery
  • Returning to exercise after pregnancy or injury

Pelvic floor muscles don't simply need to be “strong.” They also need to relax, lengthen, and coordinate with the rest of your body.

Your physiotherapist will assess your individual needs and develop a treatment plan based on your symptoms and goals.

What to Expect

From Your Initial Assessment to a Personalized Treatment Plan

Your appointment begins with a conversation about your symptoms, health history, movement, and goals. Your physiotherapist may assess your breathing, abdominal wall, hips, lower back, movement patterns, and pelvic floor function.

When appropriate, an internal vaginal and/or rectal assessment may be offered to provide a more detailed understanding of the pelvic floor muscles. This is always discussed with you beforehand, and an internal assessment is not required for everyone.

Treatment may include education, therapeutic exercise, breathing and pressure-management strategies, mobility work, manual therapy, and pelvic floor strengthening or relaxation techniques.

Pelvic Health During Pregnancy & Postpartum

Support for Pregnancy, Birth, and Postpartum Recovery

Pregnancy, childbirth, and returning to activity afterward can place significant demands on the pelvic floor and abdominal muscles.

Pelvic health physiotherapy can help you prepare for these changes during pregnancy and support your recovery afterward.

Whether you're experiencing symptoms or simply want guidance as you return to exercise, pelvic floor physiotherapy can help you feel stronger and more confident in your body.

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy in Kelowna

You don't have to accept pelvic pain, bladder leakage, or other pelvic floor symptoms as something you simply have to live with.
